The average person uses about 80 – 100 gallons of water per day. With the flushing of the toilet being the largest use of household water. The following is a list of indoor water guzzlers.
Toilets – Older toilets use from 3.5 to 7 gallons of water per . flush. The newer toilets only use 1.6 gallons a
flush. If your toilet has a leak it can use about
200 gallons a day.
Shower Heads - Older shower heads use as much as 5 gallons per . minute. The newer shower heads use up to 2.5
gallons per minute.
Bath Tubs - A full tub of water is about 36 gallons.
Bathroom Sinks - Older faucets run at about 2 gallons a minute where . newer faucets run at about a gallon a minute.
Washing Machine - Older/Traditional washers use up to 40 gallons a . load. The new high-efficiency washers can use less
than 27 gallons a load depending on the machine.
Dishwashers - Depending on the efficiency of the machine, 4 – 10 . gallons a load. Washing the same dishes by hand
could use up to 20 gallons of water.
Being aware of the water you use and fixing leaks as soon as detected can help keep your water bill down. Something else to keep in mind when outside, the garden hose uses from 5 – 15 gallons a minute.
